Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Dr. Milani's approach is to provide the best possible care while minimizing the discomfortand recovery time needed for required procedures or surgeries. Frequently, minimally invasive surgery is possible and is becoming more common as this field develops. This type of surgery uses smaller incisions, treats the tissues more gently, and can allow for a quicker return to activities. Some problems involving displaced discs (herniated discs), spine instability (such as spondylolisthesis), small spinal canal (spinal stenosis), and painful degenerative discs may be treated with minimally invasive surgery. Other spinal problems may require more traditional surgery but these "open" procedures have been steadily improved as well. Although open surgery may require somewhat longer incisions and different techniques, respect for the muscles and other tissues are still the goal and these surgeries have been steadily improved as well. John Milani M.D. has a surgical goal to perform the least surgery using the gentlest techniques that are appropriate for a patient's problem in order to accomplish the needed relief.
